How good would it be to live in those times again. The only worry in the world would be that you got back home for your tea at the time agreed with by your parents. I'm sure we all used excuses when we were late.

My very bad grammar, what I meant was "how long would it take to get to the main peak crags (burbage etc in the valley) from meadowhall when leaving at 5-5.30 at night."

The bit about not spending what you earn I can configure that one. Mentally it shows that you have self responsibility and control when needing to live just after the job has gone, the only thing that provided the previous living expenses. I got it wrong first time in Sheffland and was bounced about then chose to get out. Very lonely second time and careful not to have a social life so as to obscur the reality of my low earnings.
So if I don't put in a social life I don't get one out but I felt like prey last time when it went wrong so am being content with my possible not so bad slow developments.
Answered from ukc and can only scratch my head at what crag you expect to find whilst actually in.. rush..... or/... not ...h.o...u.r

it brings back so many memories, mum was forever telling me off for getting covered in sticky weed balls.
i still live on cuffling drive (grew up on rowanberry avenue) and walk past kirby frith every day & so wish my kids had the same overgrown jungle to play in that i did. its a concrete jungle now with fly-tipped rubbish everywhere & speeding cars.....such a shame.

Nice comment - not a climber myself, but it does sum up for me why I get outdoors and ride my mountainbike.

Its the back to basics that does it for me. The essential things that count, rather than the dross that makes up our "normal" lives.

After a couple of days out solo I find I have to keep away from crowds for the first 24 hrs after my return to try to keep that feeling of snaity!
;-)

I know exactly what you mean.
I had the same kind of feeling on a solo traverse of Tryfan's peaks and Bristly Ridge back in February.
There's an inner peace you get from having no outside influences other than the natural environment.
It is a complete escape from the worries and responsibilities of everyday life and it is delicious for the soul.
